Should I use this? Scope and emergencies
Yes, if you have information about someone else’s possible crime. Do not use it to report yourself, and do not use it if something dangerous is happening right now.
If this is happening right now
Section titled “If this is happening right now”Once the immediate danger has passed, you can still send a tip if you want your program to know what happened.
What this covers
Section titled “What this covers”TypVault is for tips such as:
- Harm to a person: violence, threats, abuse, or trafficking
- A weapon somewhere it should not be, a planned attack, or a credible threat
- Someone missing, or someone you are worried about, including a child or a vulnerable adult at risk
- Drug dealing, manufacturing, or distribution
- Property crime: theft, burglary, vandalism, or damage
- Fraud or a scam involving money, identity, or trust
- Anything else, including something you are not sure fits
If what you know does not match one of these exactly, send it anyway and pick the closest category, or choose “Something else.”
Report other people, not yourself
Section titled “Report other people, not yourself”TypVault is for reporting other people. Do not use it to report your own actions. If you want to turn yourself in, contact your local law enforcement agency directly.
If you are still not sure
Section titled “If you are still not sure”Send the tip. Pick the category that comes closest, and add the detail in your own words on the next step. Your program would rather have information that turns out not to matter than miss something that does.
