Reading a tip: the four fields
Opening a routed tip in your agency’s portal shows four fields: reference, category, status, and received.
The four fields
Section titled “The four fields”- Reference: the case number assigned automatically, once, when your program opens the tip as a case.
- Category: the type of report, using your program’s own category list.
- Status: where the tip currently stands in your program’s workflow, for example active or closed.
- Received: the date and time the tip was submitted.
Below these four fields, the tip may also show messages between you and your program. That’s a separate feature, covered in Messaging the program.
Why the page shows so little
Section titled “Why the page shows so little”Your agency’s portal is built to show you only what you need to track a routed tip: a reference, a category, a status, and a date.
The tip’s full case file — its narrative, any attachments, and your program’s own case notes — is not part of this page. It stays with your program, in your program’s own case system.
If you need anything beyond these four fields, ask your program directly. They hold the complete case file, and they decide what to share with you and how.
