Crime of the Week
Crime of the Week is a page your program uses to spotlight one open case and ask the public for help with it.
What you’ll see
Section titled “What you’ll see”The page shows one featured case at a time. You’ll see a title and a description, and, if your program has added them, a photo, a location, and a category. Some featured cases have an end date, shown on the page, after which that case is no longer featured. If nothing is featured right now, the page shows a plain message and a button to submit a tip anyway.
The reward banner
Section titled “The reward banner”If your program has set a reward for the case, a banner shows the amount, worded as “up to” that figure. It tells you what’s on offer for information that helps the case move forward. Staying anonymous doesn’t change whether you can collect it.
Your program decides whether to offer a reward and how much. The final amount is confirmed once a reward is approved. The Rewards article covers how you collect one.
Starting a tip from this page
Section titled “Starting a tip from this page”The button on this page opens the same report form as the main tip form on the site. It also carries a hint about the featured case’s category, so that category is already picked when the form opens. If the hint doesn’t match a category the form recognizes, the form opens with no category picked, and you choose one yourself.
Arriving here doesn’t add any tracking of you. The category hint travels along with the link you tapped, and nothing about how you got to this page is tied to your tip.
The rest of the report works the same way
Section titled “The rest of the report works the same way”Once the form opens, reporting from this page works exactly like reporting from anywhere else on the site.
