Saving a draft and coming back

Save your tip partway through if you’re not ready to send it, then come back later with your tip code and a passphrase to finish.

Saving your progress

While you’re filling out your tip, look for the option to save it for later instead of sending. It pauses everything you’ve written without sending anything.

You’ll set a passphrase as you save. This one is required, not optional — it’s different from the passphrase you can choose to set on a tip you’ve already sent. See Passphrases for how each one works and why neither can be reset if you forget it.

After you save, you get a tip code. Write it down somewhere private. It’s what gets you back into your unfinished tip.

Another way a draft can start

If a step in sending your tip doesn’t work when you try, saving it as a draft may be offered as one of your options instead. See The safety check for that situation.

Coming back to finish it

1. Go to the check-your-tip page.
2. Enter your tip code, then your draft passphrase.
3. You’re taken back into your tip, filled in with what you already wrote.
4. Add anything new — more detail, a photo — then send it.

Your draft becomes a regular tip the moment you send it. From there, it works the same as any tip: check its status, send a message, and get an approved reward, all with the same tip code.

If a file didn’t attach

Saving a draft doesn’t wait on your files. Even if one fails to attach, your draft still saves. Add that file again once you’re back to finish it.

If you don’t come back

A draft is different from a sent tip. If you never return to finish it, it’s removed automatically 72 hours after you save it. After that, going back to the check-your-tip page with that code and passphrase won’t open anything — there’s nothing left to finish.
